This 5 day/4 night, self-drive journey is the perfect opportunity to see a beautiful piece of Iceland and its environs independently. We can also add on to this itinerary to see more of the countryside!
Day 1: Reykjavík
Arrive early morning in Keflavík airport and transfer on your own by Flybussen to your hotel in the city. Your travel documents, including a detailed map and itinerary, will be waiting for you at the front desk. Enjoy this capital city for the rest of the afternoon at your leisure.

Day 2: Reykjavík- Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls - Mýrdalsjökull glacier
Today you will visit the south coast highlights: Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls, Mýrdalsjökull glacier and Dyrhólaey, a rocky headland where thousands of puffins nest in summer.
Optional: Snow scooter tour on Mýrdalsjökull glacier, kayak tour from Stokkseyri, the Saga Centre in Hvolsvöllur.

Day 3: Þjórsárdalur valley - Hekla - Gullfoss - Geysir
Explore Þjórsárdalur valley and its landscape of sharply contrasting birch woods, sandy lava fields, rivers and waterfalls, huddling below the impressive Volcano Hekla. Visit Þjóðveldis¬bærinn, a replica of an old Viking farm. Continue to Gullfoss waterfall and Geysir hot spring area-a favorite spot of many visitors!
Optional: Þjóðveldisbærinn farm, River rafting in the Geysir area, ATV-quad biking in Haukadalur.

Day 4: Þingvellir National Park - Borgarfjörður region - Reykjavík
Visit Þingvellir National Park, site of the ancient Icelandic parliament. Then via Hvalfjörður fjord or Kaldidalur highland track (4WD needed). On to the beautiful Borgarfjörður region and Reykholt, home of the 13th century scholar Snorri Sturluson. Return to Reykjavík in the afternoon.
