Explore the highlights of Iceland!

Day 1: Depart US on your transatlantic flight from your gateway city.

Day 2: Welcome to Reykjavik! Your documents will be ready to pick up at the airport including a clearly marked road map. Transfer by the Flybussen to your city centre hotel. Enjoy a day of leisure to catch up on jet lag and explore this unique city. Your car rental will be delivered the next morning to your hotel.

Day 3: After breakfast, your journey begins with a drive across Hellisheiði to the greenhouse village of Hveragerði. From here, continue to some one of Iceland’s main attractions, the waterfall Gullfoss, the hot springs at Geysir and Þingvellir, site of the ancient Icelandic parliament. End the day driving through Hvalfjörður fjord or Kaldidalur highland pass (4WD needed) to Borgarfjörður.

Day 4: Today enjoy another traditional breakfast before your drive north through Borgarfjörður, to the shores of Húnaflói bay. Continue on to the towering mountains and horse-breeding valleys of Skagafjörður with your final destination of Akureyri.

Optional: River rafting in Skagafjörður, horse riding in Skagafjörður.

Day 5: Awake, savor your breakfast and spend the morning in the quaint town, Akureyri, the capital of the North. After exploring the town you continue on to the Lake Mývatn area. Here are lots of opportunities for hiking!

Day 6: Today is a more in depth exploration of the natural wonders of Lake Mývatn and its surrounding areas, including fantastic lava formations. Don’t forget to visit the volcanic area of Krafla along with the colorful sulfurous slopes of Námaskarð pass.

Day 7: Rise and shine for your drive north to the fishing port of Húsavík perched around Tjörnes peninsula. Along the way a visit to Ásbyrgi, a magnificent horseshoe-shaped canyon and Jökulsárgljúfur National Park awaits. Proceed to Dettifoss, Europe's mightiest waterfall, before heading across the highland plateau to city of Egilsstaðir.

Day 8: Awaken and drive south through the spectacular East Fjords, where towering, terraced mountains plunge vertically into the ocean. Then continue on to the town of Höfn in Hornafjörður, a gateway to the south coast.

Optional: Petra's stone collection, boat tour to Papey island.

Day 9: Greet the day with a drive to the shimmering icebergs and still, milky waters of Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon. Your panoramic journey continues to Skaftafell National Park, where an easy hike is highly recommended. End your day traveling to the picturesque village of Kirkjubæjarklaustur.

Day 10: Delve into your final drive along the spectacular south coast, a sweeping landscape of sandy deserts, rocky shores and rolling farmland sandwiched between snow-capped glaciers, mountains and the ocean. The day ends with your return to Reykjavík.

Day 11: After your final Icelandic breakfast, make your way to the airport on the Flybussen!
