Level of Travel Scale
To better identify and match your desired style and level of travel, we have created an easy to read scale. All four levels embrace The Nordic Company’s slogan: “Your connection to the SPIRIT of Scandinavia.” We strive to fulfill this promise by providing service that reaches out and touches the very pulse, nature, customs, traditions and activities in every country you visit. The difference in levels is most often found in the standard of hotels and unique experiences and sites. All levels guarantee a memorable journey as you explore, discover and experience this very special part of the world!
Equally represented in both our escorted and independent/customized travel programs—you can expect more of a “tourist level” of accommodations with private bath, local cuisine and ample guided sight-seeing as you go. In the independent style of travel, it might be with a car rental, rail, ship or other public mode of transportation, or a mixture of all.
Special level of travel that can be found in both our escorted tours and independent/customized travel programs. Accommodations are enhanced by historic and traditional family hotels with all the amenities. Our first-class level comes with in-depth sight-seeing throughout. We can provide private transfers plus private city sight-seeing upon request.
Our more elite level and style of travel! Consisting of upscale hotels, manors, spas, and castles; each is hand-picked, inspected on a regular basis and offers extraordinary services. We continue to offer several escorted tours in this category, but this level of travel is most commonly found in our handcrafted independent/customized itineraries. We often provide privately guided city and countryside sight-seeing as well as specially recommended venues carefully matched to our travelers’ preferences.
Luxury (By request only)
Our most luxurious level of travel that is handcrafted to fit your travel desires. By request only!
Hotels & Airlines
Understanding accommodations in Scandinavia can be confusing due to differing expectations. Triple rooms usually include a rollaway bed, and European rooms are generally smaller than those found in the United States. Many of our preferred hotels in gateway or holiday cities often requires continual renovation. We conduct yearly site inspections on all of our preferred hotels to ensure the best hotel choice based on our own high standards for quality, comfort, reliability, location and attractive rates and service.
We highly recommend centrally located city hotels in attractive areas with many points of interest within easy walking distance. A buffet or three-course dinner is usually available, and a Scandinavian buffet breakfast is always included. This buffet includes a fantastic array of bread, cheese, eggs, fresh fruit, granola, cereal, yogurt, fish and traditional pickled herring.
We offer attractive hotel rates for pre- and/or post-tour nights as well as customized travel itineraries and extensions throughout Scandinavia and Russia. Such extensions often complement a tour by providing additional time for visiting relatives, tracing your heritage, relaxing and reflecting on fond travel memories.
We recommend the best lodging to help you experience the traditions and elegance of historic Scandinavia. These range from historic hotels to family-owned traditional inns, fishing rorburers or fabulous mountain resorts.
One of our featured properties is Røisheim Hotel; snuggled in the Jotenheimen Mountain region of central Norway. Røisheim is only one fine example of the many memorable stays we consistently recommend for their special ambience, excellent food, wine and splendid location.
In addition, we continue to strongly support the historic and prominent hotels of the greater Norwegian Fjord Region; Bergen and Oslo: Kvikne’s Hotel, Hotel Ullensvang, Union Hotel, Hotel Alexandra, Solstrand Hotel & Båd, and Hotel Continental, to name just a few. We also offer the Historic Hotels of Sweden, Danish Manors-Inns and Countryside Hotels of Sweden for their extraordinary quality, tradition, atmosphere and local cuisine. So, whether you are headed to the seaside of Skåne in Sweden, the Lofoten Islands of Norway, the countryside of Finland, the sandy shores of Denmark, the grandeur of St. Petersburg or a slice of each, we select and match your particular style and level of accommodations to our extraordinary repertoire of fine properties.
All of the properties we suggest earned our recommendation due to the matching of our style and brand of travel with their exquisite charm, historic/family traditions and scenic locations.
Attractive rates are available at all of our featured hotels and family-owned properties. We offer excellent rates and enjoy priority booking through our Tour Operator contracts with all of our high-quality hotel companies.

As a preferred Scandinavian Tour Operator, we are happy to offer our travelers attractive contract fares flying on our two “airlines of choice”. Our fares depart from select US gateway cities and include add-on connections from numerous smaller feed-in cities. SAS, Scandinavian Airlines and Icelandair provide extraordinary Scandinavian hospitality and traditional food en-route to your destination. We realize so many travelers enjoy frequent flier benefits and discounted fares, but do encourage you to consider our options and attractive upgrade possibilities. Please see Travelers’ Reference page for additional details.
